More money for local bikeways 2010/2011
25 June, 2010
The Lord Mayor’s commitment to deliver $100 million of bikeways
infrastructure by 2012 is delivering great results for our local area.
The Cabbage Tree Creek bikeway will be constructed this year at a cost of $1.9 million and will deliver better connections in our cycling network.
This bikeway will provide a safer, off-road path through Philip Vaughan Park and along the northern side of the creek to encourage more healthy and active lifestyles for Brisbane residents.
With the growing number of bikes purchased in our city, it is clear that more Brisbane residents are getting around our city using pedal power.
Last year we delivered two new cycle and pedestrian bridges in Fitzgibbon and Carseldine – and I’m delighted both have proven to be extremely popular with local cyclists and walkers alike.
This year we will be doing more work on the design for a new bridge to link Canterbury Park from Feuerriegel Road, Bald Hills to Strathpine. Work is also continuing on an additional bridge
in Fitzgibbon near Odense Street.
