Cabbage Tree Creek Bikeway

One of the final links in the Cabbage Tree Creek bikeway has been completed with the recent opening of the new $2 million connection from Cambridge Crescent, Fitzgibbon to Lemke Road, Taigum. Cr Amanda Cooper was delighted with the new 3 metre wide pathway that will connect with the Sandgate Seahawks ground and encourage Sandgate High students to walk or cycle to school safely.
"This project is all about improving facilities for Fitzgibbon, Carseldine and Taigum residents and giving them new recreational or commuting pathways through our local area," she said.
Once complete, the bikeway will ultimately connect McDowall to Taigum via 12 kilometres of continuous, off-road pathways and improve access to the popular Moreton Bay Cycleway.
This project is part of Lord Mayor Campbell Newman's commitment to make Brisbane a more liveable and cycle-friendly city with his $100 million bikeway investment to 2012. The project was a joint initiative of Brisbane City Council and the State Government to promote healthy and active communities.
