Bridgeman and Beckett Road Corridor Upgrade moves a step closer

25 November, 2009

Brisbane City Council is preparing to move into the next phase of the Bridgeman and Beckett Road Corridor Upgrade as detailed design nears completion.

The upgrade, part of Lord Mayor Campbell Newman’s Road Action Program, includes upgrading Bridgeman Road and Beckett Road (between Linkfield Road and Saturn Crescent) to a four-lane arterial standard road.

Councillor for McDowall Ward, Norm Wyndham said Bridgeman Road was a major link in the northern suburbs and Council was committed to upgrading the current road while maintaining the area’s amenity.

“Bridgeman Downs and the surrounding suburbs are undergoing significant growth and development which needs to be supported by providing a sustainable road network,” Cr Wyndham said.

“This upgrade, which is funded in Council’s 2009/2010 budget, will reduce congestion, improve safety and meet future demands as the area’s population continues to grow.”

Bracken Ridge Councillor, Amanda Cooper, said the project’s first newsletter had recently been distributed to around 5500 residents along the corridor and invited residents to contact Council with any questions.

“The current newsletter focuses on the Bridgeman Road Stage 1 section of the upgrade and includes a concept map showing how Council will link Bridgeman Road through to Linkfield Road by developing the unconstructed section of road north of Beams Road,” Cr Cooper said.

“This will allow motorists to continue directly to Gympie Arterial Road instead of using neighbouring roads like Neville, Roghan and Beams Roads.”

The Road Action Program is an unprecedented infrastructure investment that fast tracks 15 years of road works into just four years.
